About Workshop
Today’s students need to demonstrate high-levels of reading comprehension. As such, many literacy and language classrooms spend a great deal of instructional time helping students to comprehend text by teaching skills and strategies. Reading comprehension, however, has a background story that is currently trending and influencing how we approach reading comprehension. This background story involves what we’ve learned about the brain and cognition and how prior experience and knowledge greatly affects text comprehension.
As science continues to provide new insight about reading, educators must then make decisions about how to best incorporate this new knowledge into the classroom. As such, we invite you to join us for an informative and hands-on workshop that will offer some practical and easy to use solutions for helping students build the background knowledge necessary to comprehend text at higher levels. These solutions will not only support the building of background knowledge, but will also incorporate technology and is supportive of Hong Kong’s initiative for reading across the curriculum.
